So I have been working much more than usual the past three weeks, my only motivation for getting thru it is I am on vacation in two weeks and I am working towards a big promotion in May.
So the new admissions girl started this week, and I must say she is doing a great job, I think it was a good decision, she just gets it. We only had to train her for a few days and she already wanted to be on her own. The only annoying thing about the training, is that I have had to do a lot of it, on top of all my stuff I have to get done. My boss has not been helpful at all, so that has been frustrating. You wouldn’t think that, that many people are interested in going to school for golf, but they are. I have been handling all the leads, campus visits, and our start coming up in May is all up to me. The only benefit is that it is going to help my numbers right before my review in May. So again that is my motivation.
So basically I am just tired all the time,even if I get sleep, tired. And cranky, which I do feel bad for JP, but I can’t help it, I am just exhausted and stressed. I feel like I never have enough time to get everything done and working out.
So really not much to update….

work this week

So this was a crazy week at work. For such a small group of employees there has been a lot of change. So this week our Registrar resigned, she has been there forever. My coworker Rachel has been dying to get that position, she is tired of doing admissions, I don’t blame her she has been doing it for over 6 years. So she is moving into the Registrar position. Which means I am the only Admissions person until we get someone up and running. STRESS… not looking forward to the next couple months. My big movitivation is I have a big review coming in May with an anticipated large pay increase, so keeping my eye on the prize.
We have been doing some interviews and pre-screen calls for canidates this week. So unbelievable the bad quality of resumes and people being unprepared when you call. Some of them actually admitted that they didn’t remember applying for the position or they are not interested. In this type of econonmy it is mind boggling.
So yesterday we had 2 good candidates, a former graduate and a girl that has a done of sales experience. Everyone wanted to pick the former graduate, but I liked the girl the best. So after many discussions throughout the day with my boss and his boss, I won. We are going to hire the girl. It was nice to feel that my opinion counted and was respected yesterday. Now I just hope this girl works out.
While we were discussing yesterday the two candidates, it ocurred to me how we have the power to really change a person’s life by giving them this job. How it is us making the final decision. I do feel bad that we did not select the graduate but he just had no sales experience and that is what we need.
So needless to say the next few weeks/months are going to include a lot of change/adjustments at work. Hopefully it will all be for the best.
It is supposed to rain here all weekend, not happy about that at all but I guess it will give me time to catch up on sleep and stuff around the apartment.

thoughts on Valentine’s Day

So if you are the type of person that enjoys Valentine’s day you might not to read any further, I do not want to be Debbie Downer for anyone. However over the years I have grown to loathe this holiday. After years of getting all worked up about, getting hopes up that it is going to be some type of magically romantic day, I have always been disappointed. So I have been for a few years, anti-Valentine’s day.
Also 2 years ago, on Valentine’s Day I experienced one of the lowest points in my life. I was living at home (not that I wasn’t grateful, but sad to be 30 and living at home), got fired from the job I had just started working at (mind you I have never been fired from any job), and going thru a divorce. That is when I said enough was enough. A week later I moved out to Arizona. I guess I could look at is a good thing, moving to Arizona is probably one of the best decisions I have made in my life, it was a good way to start over.
I think it is a ridiculous holiday, just so hallmark,florists and restuarants can overcharge. I think there are ways to show your significant other or people that you love, how you feel all year long. Why just dedicate one day for it. Yesterday JP ran into the grocery store to get a few things, so I waited in the car. The grocery store is right next to a Hallmark, so for a good 15 minutes, I watched men go in and out of there like a revolving door.All coming out with bags of cards and candy and balloons, so silly to me and a waste of money. All week listening to cowokers talk about their plans of going out to dinner, hoping to get gifts from their boyfriends. To each their own I guess.
JP and I are having a good weekend, doing what we normally do. The weather has been gorgeous, went for a long hike yesterday. Not sure about plans for today yet, but it should be a good day.

so this time at the gym. There is this trainer at the gym and older gentleman, probably could be my dad. So he always walks by and high fives me while I am running. Last week he decided to try and talk to me. I had just finished my run and was doing my walk cool down. He went on and on saying he has noticed me over the past few months, saying how hard I work, asking me how far I run. Then he gives me the up and down and says, if you need any help with working out any body parts let me know… creepo-I was like get away from me! His name is Ward.

So I will start with the good news, I became an Aunt again today. My sister had her third child this morning. Carter Simon Fergus. I am so happy for my sister and Nathan. He is a cutie! I can’t wait to meet him next month. I am sad that I can’t see him right away, but I am going to try and not dwell on that and focus on when I will get to see him. I don’t know how my sister does it, I can’t even imagine juggling 3 kids!

Really not much going, it has been a boring few weeks. I was sick this past week which was not fun, had a bad cold and pink eye. Had to miss work on Monday, but feeling much better. I have been trying to get back into a normal routine with working out but it seems like something is always coming up. I am good for a few weeks and then I get thrown off again. The weather has been frustrating too, we have been getting so much rain.I know everyone on the East coast will have no sympathy for me. It looks like rain again for this weekend too

The budget is still going well, hard though. We have been staying in a lot and watching a lot of movies. Work is going fine,same old same old. JP is doing really well at his job, which is great. It is nice that we are both in jobs we enjoy for the most part and have normal work schedules.

No big plans for the weekend, no interest in the super bowl but will probably end up watching it anyways.

so far 2010 has been going well. Jason and I had a good time new year’s eve-we went out with our friend craig to a local bar. Had a few drinks and listened to some good music.
Working a full week was hard this past week. I also had to be in early 2 days, which was painful. I was at work before the sunrise, something very very wrong with that.
We had a start this past week-so work was stresful, but we hit our goal-so everyone is happy. I have some weirdo and creepo students that started-it is amazing what some of these guys say to me- I will recap two conversations I had this past week and they were one right after each other.

First call, this guy was an applicant that got passed over to me-because they finally fired nap girl-so this was one of her students. He is this 60 yr old guy who is a military verteran who is a little off and a pervert. I had meant him once before-so he remembered me. He has said many creepy comments but his one topped them all. He said Rebecca, do you know what my nickname was in college? I said no, what was it. He said Coffee. I said Coffee, that is interesting why? He said because my grind is so fine! I was like are you kidding me right now. I didn’t even know what to say. I just said that is nice, so anyways….

Second creepy conversation. This is a creepy guy from vegas, big tall greek guy-named Theo. He was in for a campus visit about a month ago, very creepy and kept making comments about my outfit. So he called me the other day to let me know he made his decision that he wants to start our school in march. So he was asking me a few questions. One of them being-so Rebecca tell me what you are wearing today? I need to picture it… I was like ummm, a sweater and pants. I did not know how to react to that one. I told my coworker about these calls, I was like I am done talking to people today!!!

So far so good with the budget, have stuck to it the past two weeks. I just wish I had started this earlier. I guess it is never too late.

I start my MBA classes tomorrow, so we will see how that goes, it hasn’t really sunken in yet that I am taking classes again, I guess it will tomorrow.

reflections on 2009 and hopes for 2010

First of all I truly apologize for not posting anything in a long long time. Things have been crazy busy with the holidays and being sick. This Christmas was extremely depressing as JP and I were sick the entire weekend and not just cold/flu sick, violently ill. We had a sad little fake tree, I honestly tried my best to get into Christmas but it just didn’t happen this year. I missed seeing my family and friends. Hopefully next Christmas will be more enjoyable.
So 2009 was not the greatest year. I like to think of it as the year of downgrades. We moved from a house to a small apartment. I had to turn in my nice murano and got a less nice rogue. I changed jobs and had to take a pay cut, but luckily I got a raise to help things recently. I gave up getting my hair done, home hair dye kits for me now. Some positives of this year, friends getting married and having babies and my sister is pregnant again. I got to travel home a few times and see friends and family. I got to finally meet JP’s parents and he got to meet my family and friends.
So for 2010 JP and I hope to buy a house. That is our main goal and focus starting immediately. We have sat down and created a very very tight budget, so that we can save enough in the next 10 months to buy a house, so we can get out of this apartment by when our lease is up. So this is the year we will be giving up our “fun” money but it will be going towards something great. This is also a good lesson and experience for me, to stay on budget and save, save, save. So it may mean less travelling this year, but it is only for one year and again the end result will be well worth it. We have been watching the show Property Virgins and Our First home, every week. So I am learning a lot about the whole process. So when we start looking this summer I will hopefully have a good understanding of what the process is.I am excited about the thought of finally owning a home and no more RENTING!
I also hope to find a way to be creative again. It is such an outlet for me and I just can’t put my finger on what I need to do. I hope to figure something out this year. I hope to make it a priority, since I will need to find things to do at home that are inexpensive.
I have decided to take some online college classes. My school pays for the tuition so it is bascially free. I am going to work towards my MBA. I honestly never thought about continuing my education, but I figured I would try a few classes and see how it goes. It is going to take awhile to finish but I am in no rush. Classes start next week.
I am hoping that things will improve at my work. I still like my job and the people I work with but the past few weeks have been very frustrating. I don’t know if it is just because of the holidays but people have become very lazy and irresponsible. The other day, my boss called out “sick”. One of my coworkers left without telling anyone and when she came back she said she went home to take a nap. I am still in shock by this, do I work at daycare and not realize it??? crazy crazy.
I hope to continue to work out and stay in shape. I had to take a few weeks off because of the holidays and being sick, but I need to make it a priority to keep up with it. The only good thing about getting sick was I finally lost the 5 lbs I had been trying to lose for months. So far I am keeping it off, nothing like a good stomach bug to get you that flat stomach
So this was rather long, but I know it has been awhile.
I want to wish everyone a Happy New Year and only good things for 2010!

travelling by plane

so recently I have been flying more and I have made some observations, particularly regarding long flights. I amazed by the amount of people that do not bring anything with them to help pass the time. They just sit there and stare ahead or stare at people. I couldn’t imagine sitting on a plane for 5 or 6 hours with nothing to amuse myself with. I have also found an annoyance with all flight attendants. They are either rude or too happy. That is my 2 cents on that subject

a simple thank you

I just wanted to share my thoughts on the simple act of saying or showing you thank you to someone. This past week I have experienced thank you’s in different forms. Some people have just said, some have written a thank you card, some have shown it with a gift. I think it is something that people take for granted or just get lazy with. It brightens my day when someone shows appreciation for the efforts you but forward. I think in some way we all want to be recognized and acknowledged by others. So my request this holiday season is to tell someone thank you, whether it is someone you work with, a family member or a friend. Even if it is a simple note or Christmas card. It is nice to be remembered.

sorry I haven’t posted anything in almost two weeks. It has been crazy with the thanksgiving trip and work this week. I am exhausted!!! I hope to have more time this week to write updates.
So one of my pet peeves is the wait you have to endure at a doctor’s office. Yesterday I had an appointment for a stupid physical that my work is making me get. Which is an annoyance in itself. We all have to get physicals before the end of the year to prove that we are healthly otherwise our insurance will go up at the 1st of the year. So I called to schedule an appointment and they only had a 3:45, which means I have to leave work a half hour early. So I get there at 3:44 and there is NO ONE in the waiting room, so I am thinking great I will get in and out of here. Nope. They made me sit and wait almost 45 MIN!!! for what I don’t know. Meanwhile the visit itself only took about 10 minutes. Doctor’s office really need to put magazines in the actual patient rooms. Because once they put you in a room you have to wait more time for the doctor to come in. Yet the only thing to entertain you is looking at the posters they have on the walls about different dieseases. And why are the rooms so damn cold!!!So you sit there freezing and bored out of your mind annoyed. That is my venting on that.
